All educators, administrators, Information Technology (IT) staff in Southern Illinois are invited to attend the 2010 Southern Illinois Technology Showcase to be held on Thursday, March 18, 2010, to explore new ways of using technology to meet the needs of a new generation of learners. The Technology Showcase is being held at John A. Logan College in Carterville, Illinois. It is being hosted by the Franklin-Williamson Regional Office of Education in cooperation with the Area 6 Regional Offices of Education and the Area 6 Learning Technology Centers.

With the rapid and ever-changing developments in technology that students grasp, it is important for educators to keep up with professional development opportunities like this Showcase. Leading technology vendors will be displaying and discussing their hardware and software solutions. Leading educators who have mixed technology tools with their daily teaching will be presenting in various "breakout" sessions.

Meg Ormiston The featured Keynote Speaker will be Meg Ormiston. For over twenty-five years, Meg Ormiston has been involved in professional development activities focused on changing instructional practice in the classroom. Meg marries her passion for technology with a deep curriculum background and over twelve years as a classroom teacher. Meg has served as a curriculum coach, school board member, keynote speaker, professional development specialist and grant facilitation specialist. Meg has also authored four books, written numerous articles, collaborated on professional videos and participates in many personal learning communities.

This year we are adding an Adminstrator Academy Presentation by Dr. Richard Voltz entitled, Educational Technology - Learning to use Networking Resources on the New Web #572. Dr. Voltz currently serves as the Illinois Association of School Administrators Associate Director. In his role, Dr. Voltz has produced more than 100 podcasts for Illinois administrators. These podcasts have included interviews with national experts on such topics as school security, principal leadership and “smart walks.” Tutorial podcasts have also been developed on topics such as how to make a tax levy presentation to a local board of education and how to use the school board association interactive policy development web site. In addition, he has been an adjunct professor at Eastern Illinois University for fifteen years. Dr. Voltz teaches courses in School Finance, School Law, Superintendency, Principalship, Data Management for Administrators, Personnel and Introduction to Educational Administration. Through his tenure as school superintendent for 17 years and a school administrator for a total of 28 years, Dr. Voltz has made over 50 presentations at state, national and international conferences. Dr. Voltz has been making presentations to superintendents and district level administrators on the topic of Web 2.0 tools for school administrators.
