Description:
Join the team at John A. Logan College as a full-time Early Childhood Education Instructor in the Department of Communication, Humanities, and Social Sciences. We are a community college in southern Illinois, dedicated to enriching lives through learning and community engagement. This position involves teaching courses in early childhood education, mentoring students, and preparing them for careers in childcare and early learning environments. Candidates should hold a master’s degree with at least 18 graduate hours in Child Development, Early Childhood Education, or a related field and 2,000 hours of experience in early childhood education. Responsibilities include curriculum development, as well as the placement and supervision of lab students at off-campus sites.
Education & Experience Requirements
Education required: Master’s degree in Child Development, Early Childhood Education, or a closely related field.
Experience required:
- The ability to communicate effectively and have basic computer literacy.
- A minimum of one (1) year of experience in early childhood education.
- Familiarity with Illinois Gateways and NAEYC.
Experience preferred:
- Experience in post-secondary teaching, particularly at a community college.
- Experience in teaching in multiple instructional modalities (e.g., online, hybrid, hyflex).
- Experience in curriculum development.
- Experience teaching at an early learning center.
Essential Functions & Position Duties
- Foster and promote a collegial atmosphere, prioritizing student learning and success.
- Develop new courses that cater to the needs of the diverse student population and adapt to the evolving educational landscape.
- Fulfill contractual obligations covering the academic year, consisting of fall and spring semesters.
- Teach a minimum of 15 credit hours per semester and hold eight office hours per week for student consultation during fall and spring semesters. Additional teaching opportunities with compensation may be available in the summer semester.
- Be available to teach classes during the day, evenings, and/or weekends as per the schedule of classes.
- Full-time faculty members are provided with private offices and have access to excellent support services.

Non-essential functions of the position
- Other duties as assigned. Duties must be performed on the John A. Logan College campus or designated location.
