CLASSIFICATION: Special Education Teacher
REPORTS TO: Building Principal
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 180 days per year
Job Summary: Ensure that the District is providing students with an IEP the free, appropriate public education to which they are entitled and that all services required under students’ IEPs are provided.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Develop and monitor the implementation of individualized educational plans & behavior intervention plans.
2. Develop and monitor the academic placement of students.
3. Provide direct instruction in areas to include: reading, written language, science, social studies, writing, math, health, organizational skills, study skills, and career-readiness skills when appropriate and indicated on the student’s individualized education plan.
4. Contact parents/guardians, establish meeting dates, and disseminate meeting notices for all required IEP meetings.
5. Attend professional development trainings through JAMP as prescribed by JAMP and District #55 administration.
6. Process all paperwork to include dissemination of copies to appropriate personnel and maintain confidentiality regarding the handling of student records and student information.
7. Maintain contact with outside agencies and parents in regards to assigned students.
8. Maintain contact with the Director of Special Education and the District #55 administration regarding student progress, individualized academic plans, and/or casework that may need the assistance of the Director or administration.
9. Complete full academic evaluations to include appropriate written reports, in a timely manner.
10. Case management of students to include: attendance at all scheduled meetings (initial evaluations, annual reviews, reevaluations, IEP revisions, domain meetings, parent/teacher conferences, and parent requested meetings), preparation of all appropriate paperwork.
11. Consult with appropriate teacher(s) in regards to modification of student work and progress – when necessary and appropriate.
12. Provide parents and students with, minimally, quarterly academic progress reporting. Progress monitoring reporting to parents/guardians and/or administration may be requested daily, or weekly as prescribed by a parent/guardian or in an IEP meeting.
13. Complete EMBRACE forms and reporting in a timely manner (Medicaid) and monitor related service providers.
14. Monitor and assign tasks to program aides/individual aides under your direction.
15. Assist with 504 students, when necessary and appropriate.
16. Comply with all federal and state regulations and provisions regarding the position of a special education teacher. Comply with all District #55 policies and procedures for certified staff.
17. Participate and/or provide needed information to the Rams’ Problem Solving Team to assist in the Response to Intervention Program.
18. Perform all other duties and responsibilities as taken and/or assigned by the District #55 administration and BOE.
QUALIFICATIONS AND RECOMMENDED WORK TRAITS:
· Proper and current IL teacher licensing/certification, respective to the field of special education
· Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with students, parents, staff, administration and respective stakeholders.
· Ability to work with students with special education needs.
· Ability to adapt teaching methods to students’ individual learning styles.
· Must be willing to maintain appearance and professionalism assigned to duties and responsibilities.
